Information and How To Order (PDF)

Cavalry is a single word that can conjure up so many vivid images. Perhaps one pictures clashes with Mexican lancers south of the Rio Grande or perhaps sabers flashing in the July sun on Pennsylvania fields. Maybe one envisions a hot, dusty hillside in Montana

in June 1876, or Buffalo Soldiers riding the plains of the southwest. Some might picture riders competing for their country’s honor in the 1936 Olympic Games, while still others recall the dawn of a new era, when the smell of gasoline replaced that of the stables and men rode to war on machines instead of horses.

Then, of course, images popularized by Hollywood also come to mind, such as the Cavalry riding to the rescue, John Wayne dressed in dusty Army blue, mounted charges sweeping across the plains.

Visit our online store! The Cavalry Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the Cavalry. Our members come from all walks of life, from active-duty military personnel to housewives, historians and doctors. They all share a common interest in the history of the cavalry and a desire to see that history preserved for future generations. Some are historians, seeking preservation through the written word. Others are reenactors, bringing history to life for others to enjoy. All seek to learn and teach others about the history and heritage of the U.S. Cavalry. This history and heritage comes from many sources. There is the history of the regiments themselves. There are the experiences and accomplishments of Army riders, (many of whom were Cavalry officers) who represented their country in the Olympic games. The lives and experiences of cavalry leaders and troopers form another part of the cavalry legacy. Finally, there is the popular image of the Cavalry, as shown in film and television. All this combines to form one of the most vital parts of the American historical experience. One that we are dedicated to preserving!
